Everyone wants their skin to be healthy. No one wants hard, dry, itchy skin that flakes off every time you touch it. You want your skin to be soft and supple, smooth to the touch and beautiful to look at. Healthy skin means looking better and feeling better, too!

Sadly, getting healthy skin isn't as easy as simply wanting it really bad. There are a number of things you should do if you want to ensure your skin is as healthy as can be. Many people skip a step, or do things sporadically instead of regularly. This leads to their skin never quite being as healthy or as supple as it could be.

So what does a person do to get healthier skin?


Start In The Shower


While it's true that fancy, high dollar soap isn't necessarily any better than regular soap, it's not true that all soap is made equal. Many of the cheap, inexpensive soaps also tend to dry out the skin. Soap is an interesting chemical, and the way it cleans is by creating a chemical reaction with water.

Water has a very thin layer over each molecule, which keeps it from bonding with the molecules in the dirt and oils on your skin. Soap works by bonding with the water in such a way as to remove the layer. It essentially makes water wetter. With wetter water, it's easier to bond with dirt and grime and pull it off of your skin.

Cheap soaps are more caustic, which causes it to burn your skin a tiny bit as it's bonding with the water. If you've ever gotten out of the shower and your skin felt weirdly dry and sticky, it was because your soap was too acidic. You don't need to get super expensive soap, of course. But getting soap that specifically moisturizes would be a good idea.

Figure Out What Kind Of Skin You Have


Part of why many people fail in their quest to getting healthy skin is that they don't even know what kind of skin they have. Sometimes, it's obvious. If your skin is especially oily, or naturally very dry, you've probably long since figured it out.

However, your skin may be slightly oily, or slightly dry, and you've simply never taken the time to realize it. Next time you use your skin lotion, take some time to see how long it actually takes to sink into your skin. Do you still feel a weird film on your skin for a long time afterwards? Can you only use a tiny bit because any more simply gets wiped off on clothing?

Chances are, you have oily skin. When lotion is unable to sink into the skin, the usual suspect is a thin layer of oil. There are many products out there to help you get rid of oily skin, but if you plan on getting healthy skin then you should avoid those products. If your skin is naturally oily, then trying to remove the oil could result in rashes, pimples, or worse skin blemishes.

The same goes for naturally dry skin. While moisturizer will help, there's an upper limit to how soft and supple dry skin will become. Trying to rub more lotion onto the skin in an attempt to make it even softer is just a waste of time and lotion.

Instead, try to make sure that the products you're using are the right products for your skin. Don't just get moisturizing lotion in hopes that it fixes things. Don't just get anti-oil creams because you hope it will make your skin less oily. Take the time to really do some research and learn what creams and moisturizers and lotions will really help your skin.
